At 7 years of age, Petrus Cabral Filho, known as Peu, used to sand woodcarvings and sculptures for other artists. “Today I’m 25 years old and I’ve been working with wood by myself for eight years.” Concentrating hard he sculpts miniature figurines of Father Cícero in a few minutes. Perfect and full of detail the sculptures are created out of any piece of wood found lying around.
Most of it is imburana wood. “The smaller the piece, the harder it is to make. But it sells better.” At home, Peu has a brother who is a saint maker, but he works full time at the Association. “I learn a lot here, and I can enjoy making my little things.” |
