Flávio Alves Gomes has worked at a bakery and done other odd jobs. Born in Fortaleza, Ceará, in 1959, he grew up watching his cousins working with wood. “Life twists and turns, and by observing I ended up learning.” Living in Juazeiro do Norte, he is now famous for his figurines of children playing. “I love making sculptures of children. Cícero Araújo was the one who said I had a gift for this, and now here I am. Each piece has 9 children, but I can make them out of just one piece of wood. Each child is different. No two are the same.” |
