In the small village of Alto da Boa Esperança, Oziel Dias Coutinho is well known for his wood work. Born in Itabaiana in 1960, he had to fend for himself from an early age. He worked as a carpenter in a furniture factory for 6 years and when he went back to his hometown he carried on making furniture for people in the area. About 9 years ago he met a person who was looking for someone to make some boxes they had designed. He did it easily and so he started making other objects, and now his pieces can be found in the shop Terra do Sol, in João Pessoa. “I love my work. When I get a log (he buys firewood to make his pieces) I already know what I’m going to make. My work is begining to be accepted. I carry on making furniture, but what I really like is my animals.” |
