Mário Gama das Neves Silva was born in Cachoeira in1966 and tradition dictated he was likely to end up carving and sculpting wood. And so it was. Mário, who signs his works Mário Filho do Louco (Mário Son of the Crazy), started by helping sand and carve his father’s pieces. “I must have been about 10 years old and I’ve never done anything else. I live off my carvings and sculptures and my son, Walace Araújo Silva, who is 17 years old, works with me.” The family saga is guaranteed to continue. |
