Florisvaldo Cardim do Nascimento FIlho is known as Nen. He’s very well known in Bahia. Born in Valença, Nen sources his materials from the banks of the Una River. Old boats, trees brought down by animals or floods, and bits of wood donated by people and off cuts from the sawmills.
The animals of the area are his favourite theme. He sculpts them in large sizes from a 3 metre wide seagull to a river prawn that is 1.20 metres long.
His creations evolved and he has started making abstract pieces. One of these pieces won an award at the Biennale of the Reconcavo, in 2002, and will be exhibited in Berlin, Germany. |
