One could say that Tiago Júnior Pinto Pereira was born amongst tree trunks and pieces of imburana wood. Back then, in 1984, his father Biu worked at home, sculpting. “I wanted to go out to play but my father would always call me back. In time I accepted it and helped him sanding the pieces. When I was 15 years old, I sculpted a fish and sold it to a craft art dealer. I enjoyed earning money but it was hard to learn. I’m still learning. It was difficult to make things come out like I wanted them to. Sometimes my father would guide my hands and teach me how to make what I had in mind. One day I went to a market in Recife with my father, and the result gave me a lot of confidence and encouragement.” Tiago joined the army but realised it wasn’t what he wanted. “I want to do what I enjoy, which is making animals. I want to be a sculptor and learn the baroque style. I know I still have to do a lot to learn to be able to make what I have in mind.” |
