Sabino de Almeida da Gama was born in 1953 in Morro Alto (MG). He works at Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo, and sculpts in his spare time. His biggest ambition now is to retire so he can work on his art full time. “Right now I can’t make a living just off this work. Everything I know I’ve learned with my father. He tried to make a wooden doll, and he succeeded. Then he taught all of us, for which we are trully thankful. Sculpting is calming, it makes me happy. I like making images of Saint Francis because they always sell, but I also like making wooden spoons, other saints and pieces without faces. They are modern, without eyes. When they have eyes, they become primitive.” |
