Born and raised in Olhos d’Água, Fatinha (Maria de Fátima Dutra Bastos) learned her art while playing. She used to make her own dolls and with the help of an aunt she made her first complex piece, a nativity scene made of vegetable fibres. As an adult, she carried on researching the materials available in the cerrado. Fatinha’s work with corn straw is extremely sofisticated and justifies its demand in Brazil and abroad.
