Levy Cardoso is one of Master Cardoso’s and Mrs. Inês’s sons, and clay runs in his veins. He has always worked with his parents and today travels a lot to teach classes and workshops. However, his sculptural work, which started in 1992, is unique. Inspired by his Amazonian native roots, he mixes clay and metal in a work of his own. His series of faces is strong, showing off a new world, an existence that arises from the earth itself.
At 39, Levy – who graduated from secondary school – has won several awards, including runner up for a Unesco prize for Latin American and Caribbean Craft Art with a Marajoara vase reproduction made according to the teachings of his father. |
