Full of energy, Domingas Leonor da Silva is known by all in the community. Born and bred in Cuiabá, she comes from a poor family with native ancestors. Today, apart from working with clay she is a fierce campaigner for the preservation of local cultural traditions. She plays instruments, sings, writes music and dances. Improvising is one of her specialties. She lives for her work: “we need to teach the children about clay, dances, and music. I didn’t go to school, but I know that a land without culture or history can’t survive”. |
