This charismatic character works in a wonderful world in his back garden. There, sculptures and musical instruments offer a magnificent vision for visitors. His name is Sitó (Antônio Pereira da Silva). Born in Ceará, he has been living in Mato Grosso for over 40 years. Today, at 77 and retired, he likes to tell stories of his life. He’s a carpenter, bricklayer, decorator, luthier and farmer. And he knows all about wood. For example he made all the furniture in his son-in-law’s medical surgery office.
He picks up pieces of wood along the way and turns them into other things. “I can’t name the types of wood, but I know if I can work with them or not.” His passion for music made him create instruments that could be played by anyone, anywhere. Sitó also writes music. “My instrument is not a thing to be lugged about. It’s made with a lot of care. When I play, I know I made it.”
