His father (Jorge Alves Siqueira) wanted him to be called Zeus, but he ended up being called Abrãao Siqueira instead. Born in 1988 in the neighbourhood Pedra Branca, Sergipe, from an early age he watched his father working. At six years old he started helping, while playing at modelling clay. “Clay is easy. I’m still learning. First I make my pieces in clay, then I make them in wood. I want to carry on this art, but I know I have to study, which is something my father couldn’t do. Today I take orders and earn some money for my work. I don’t know what will come of it, but I enjoy it very much.” Very confident for someone of 17 years old, Abrãao makes saints and cherubim images that seem very peaceful, with natural features. It’s impossible not to compare his work with his father’s, Zeus. He is his master, and maturity will surely take him onto his own path. All we have to do is wait and see. |
